DAILY MANNA
Watchman Nee (1903-1972) was a prominent Chinese Christian leader, teacher, and author who profoundly impacted the global Christian community. Born in Fuzhou, China, Nee became a Christian at the age of 17 and quickly devoted himself to studying the Bible and sharing his faith. He founded the “Local Church” movement in China, emphasizing the practical aspects of Christian living and church life. Over his lifetime, Nee authored numerous books and articles that have inspired countless believers worldwide, focusing on topics such as spiritual growth, church practice, and the deeper Christian life.
Nee’s dedication to his faith and ministry led to significant challenges, especially during the rise of the Communist regime in China. In 1952, he was arrested for his faith and sentenced to 15 years in prison, where he remained until his death in 1972. Despite the harsh conditions and suffering he endured, Nee’s writings continued to spread and influence Christians globally. His works, including classics like “The Normal Christian Life” and “Sit, Walk, Stand,” have been translated into multiple languages and remain popular among believers seeking deeper spiritual understanding and practical Christian living. During his imprisonment, Nee’s jailer witnessed his unwavering faith and devotion, noting that Nee often sang hymns and prayed, radiating peace and joy even in such dire circumstances. Upon Nee’s death, a piece of paper was found under his pillow with his final words: “Christ is the Son of God who died for the redemption of sinners and resurrected after three days. This is the greatest truth in the universe. I die because of my belief in Christ.”
Watchman Nee’s influence extended beyond his lifetime, earning recognition even in political circles. In 2009, the United States Senate honored Nee for his contributions to Christianity and his unwavering faith in the face of persecution. The resolution acknowledged his profound impact on the Christian church and his legacy as a courageous and dedicated servant of Christ. Nee’s teachings continue to shape Christian thought and practice, inspiring believers to pursue a closer relationship with God and a more authentic expression of their faith in daily life.

“And it so happened that as the people were burying a man, they saw a band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he came to life and stood up on his feet.”
